Guerrilla Threads is…
Me, Morgan Finley, a guy who sews. I first learned to use a sewing machine out of necessity, but soon I was using it more for fun. What turned me on was making things for daily life that are colorful and more fun than off the rack men’s fashion.
A few years ago I was living in my RV and it needed new curtains for the windshield. You can’t just go out and buy these kind of curtains, and we wanted to make it our own. So my partner and I bought a whole skein of dec-weight fabric on clearance, and an old Montgomery Ward sewing machine from a vacuum shop. The rest is (recent) history.
The Challenge I Found
I’ve always found men’s fashion to be rather boring, with way less color and variety than what you would find in women’s clothing. Since sewing my first seam, I discovered that I could have the clothes and colors I want if I just put in the effort. I’ve found that I enjoy designing and creating my own bright and bold designs rather than buying them. So I started this blog to document my adventures, projects and thoughts.
I have a few goals here, but mostly it’s to make fashion that’s bold and unforgettable. I’d also like to bring some attention to the lack of men who sew and resources for those that do. Sewing is an immensely useful skill which I think a lot more men would enjoy if they gave it a try. I look forward to more blog posts in the future…
and hopefully some designs to purchase!
